LOL I started commenting in your other thread.
I am generally not a fan of red boards. Your board also has alot going on overall. However, in my opinion, it's very well thought out and put together. There are a few backgrounds that could match better, but all in all, for me it's a nice looking board. |

Hi there -
I do like the look of your board. The banner particularly - very nice!! However I do think that the background is a bit busy. Maybe if you faded it a bit it would look nicer - my eyes are drawn to it the second the board comes up, and thats not really the purpose of a background.  Also... I'm not a real big fan of the animated icons. It's not the icons themselves that are bad, it's the animation - it makes my computer slow and (to me) just doesn't look as nice as a regular icon without animation. Good job though - I do like the colors you've chosen and you did a fine job of pulling them together to create a nice theme.

I've had a quick look and like what I see, but have a touch of food poisoning at the moment so will do a full critique in a couple of days!
One thing that I do agree with Fava about, and that's the animated icons! You have a neat well thought out design that flows throughout the board, yet those animated icons slightly let it down! If you are 100% attached to the animated icons, then maybe think about putting a loop number on them of 1 or 2 loops, so it has the desired effect of the animation... but doesn't go on and on (and on) flashing away at you! Anyway... will be back within a couple of days to do a full critique! - PS. I like the banners I've seen so far! - Very nice! |

Looking forward to seeing whatelse you have to say Toxic  I tried muting the background a couple of different times, but I think we're gonna stick with the dark red... and yep those icons took forever for us to find and we like em I don't know what you mean about putting them on a loop though? Is that something I can do in photoshop? I'd like to give it a try and see what we think

A loop is a continuously moving image that restarts without any choppy effects.
Also - for the background on the main page - have you tried a very appropriate "red carpet" as opposed to the weave? |

I also think the background is a bit busy for the board, but I do like the ani icons. I think animations used sparingly can make a statement. Nice job!

IF you don't mind a critique a whole month later, I've got a bit of time on my hands now!
This board used to be all red, although it was a bit darker. Some people were radically against it. I do find your choice of shade a bit hard on the eyes, and my monitor is very good in relation to colour representation. One suggestion would be to introduce a darker red for many of the text areas, or bring in a lot more dark grey - around the #333 range or so. I really like the unread icon on the main page, it's nicely themed. I went into idle chatter and got a shock though. The background is just awful, pardon the honesty! I can't read the white text at the top of the board, and when combined with the red forum area (which I like, despite it seering my eyes out) the overall effect is far too bright for comfortable viewing. With the black background on the banner, I'd consider a black background for the rest of the forum too. I won't go through the rest of them, I see that they are mostly nicely themed, with good buttons and colours. Just check that they are all slightly muted, and easy on the eyes. The blues are quite good, although the forum area of the would you rather forum is a bit on the bright side. Let's look at your sidebar - nice matching typefaces to the banner. Some of them have film sprocket holes - why not all of them? This is a nice bit of moviedom, and it's lost down the bottom of the page. I would have also suggested adding sprockets up and down either side, with an overall black background instead of the red bamboo weave... that just looks like a bit of clip art, and it's not particularly 'movie'. If you're able to edit your banner (depending on who made it) then I'd suggest extending it by a tiling bg to fit the width of the forum area (95%) so that it always lines up left and right with the forum beneath. And even more important - so it lines up at the top with the top of the sidebar. And lose the faded bevel edges on it, cut it clean with a nice 1px border in white so that it matches both the sidebar and the forum area. Oh yeah, and a border around the nav area would help that text stand out too. |

how do I get it to line up properly without changing the size of the banner?
Also i wouldn't mind seeing what it would look like with a border around the nav area... how would I do that? I agree on the background for the idle chatter... will see what else is around. Thanks for takin a look and offering some suggestions

not to be a pain or anything, but I did go looking and I didn't find anyting that would fit the whoel page. only smaller pics that wouldn't repeat if used as a background. Can someone steer me in the right direction... you never know, it is worth a look.
