It looks like you've got a thriving community there, so obviously there is a lot you're doing right. My first reaction when I saw your board was that your banner is far too high. It would look more effective if the banner was in some way horizontal instead, and the board began earlier on the page. I had to scroll down every time.

You've also got such a lot of sidebar information, on some pages the sidebar is longer than the main content of the page.

I would look at alternate ways to show that too. Perhaps some things remain in the sidebar, and appear on each page, but others appear across the top (under the banner) on the main page of the board only. And maybe some appear across the bottom of each page.

For example, put your prayer lists down the side, but move the advertising across the top of the main page - the jewellery and books.

Within your forums the colours and icons are nicely co-ordinated, and very tranquil. But the closed topic icon is a sudden burst of comedy! I always like seeing boards where the emoticons and (and sometimes smilies) have been made to match the design of the rest of the board. Whether it's a colour thing, or the style of the illustration.
